"Exit the King" - a French, existential, absurdist tragi-comedy by Eugene Ionesco

Geoffrey Rush reprised his role as King Berenger in "Exit the King" for a short Broadway run between March 27th and June 14th 2009. (The play had previously played in both Melbourne and Sydney in Australia during 2007.) Many Rushies managed to fulfil their dreams of seeing Geoffrey acting live on-stage, and the majority also met the man himself afterwards and gained memories to be treasured forever.

 

THE KING MUST GO… BUT NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT!

"King Berenger is getting old – 400 years old, to be exact – and his health is failing. His country is failing (his empire is down to six people). His marriage is failing (his first marriage already failed). But his pride has most definitely not failed, and despite being told his time is up, the ancient ruler refuses to get off the stage without a fight.

The great Academy Award®-winning actors Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon come to Broadway in this potently funny play about man’s eternal struggle against irrelevance.

Also starring are the extraordinary performers Lauren Ambrose and Andrea Martin. Completing the phenomenal cast are William Sadler and Brian Hutchison.

"Long Live the King!" - US Rushie Meet - June 9th 2009

I travelled to New York to see the play on June 9th 2009 and, along with seven fellow Rushketeers, had one of the best evenings of my life. :)
